Community college should open doors, not create obstacles for students!

For thousands of students, the challenge isn’t a lack of drive, but the barriers they face along the way:  the cost of living, transportation and housing insecurity, balancing work and school, or simply having the support and resources to continue and finish strong.

For more than a decade as an LACCD Trustee, I’ve worked to tackle these challenges and expand opportunities for students by investing in our students and campuses, making college more accessible and affordable, and preparing students for future opportunities and careers.

My work has always been about more than getting students through the doors. It’s about making sure students have the support and opportunities to thrive!

Support Students From Enrollment to Completion

  • Identify struggling students early and connect them with academic support, financial aid, counseling, and basic-needs resources.

  • Simplify the student experience at every step by making enrollment, financial aid, academic advising, and overall transfer services easier to navigate and access.

  • Measure student success by outcomes, including degrees and certificates earned and successful transfers, not enrollment alone!
